UPDATES!

In these first few weeks of November, we have been able to develop a mission statement for MACCNO that describes exactly what we are trying to accomplish.

MACCNO Mission Statement:

To empower the New Orleans musical and cultural community through collective self-representation, advocating in the interests of cultural preservation, perpetuation, and positive economic impact.

The Jackson Square Ordinances have been removed from the agenda at City Hall tomorrow, Thursday, Nov 20. Be sure to not show up expecting to speak against them. However, they may pop back up after the holidays, so keep an eye out for updates here or on the MaCCNO website or nola.gov for updates.

This is a study being conducted on economic development geared at the possibility of major renovations to the Claiborne Corridor. There’s a ton of information on this you should be aware of so click the link above to read more.

Yesterday’s meeting at Kermit’s was extremely productive and well organized. It’s really great to see the Music and Culture Coalition of New Orleans working our way into a more established group.

Here are some upcoming dates that could use the SUPPORT OF THE PEOPLE:

Tuesday, November 13th

11AM at City Hall - Meeting in front of the City Planning Commission regarding new French Market laws

Wednesday, November 14th

11AM at Kermit’s Speakeasy - Teach In regarding operating permits with Scott Hutcheson from the Office of Cultural Economy

12PM at Kermit’s Speakeasy - Weekly meeting of MaCCNO

Thursday, November 15th

11AM at City Hall (in the big room, maybe number 1E7)

Siberia is going before City Hall regarding their live music permit. There are also some new laws regarding Jackson Square being presented at this time. One of which proposes no standing, loitering, or stopping in the Square between the hours of 1am-5am. This would greatly effect the street performers who count on those late night crowds to make ends meet. Read more HERE.

If you have the time and care about this stuff, please show up and show your support. It really does help a lot to hear personal accounts of how these clubs and artists better New Orleans. The city is willing to listen, if we are willing to defend.

Kermit will be holding another meeting this Wednesday, October 3rd at noon at his Treme Speakeasy Restaurant & Bar (1535 Basin St.) By that time, we hope to have talked to many venues around town and gotten their signatures on the fliering proposal, so we can head to City Hall sometime the following week.

There were about 125 people or so in attendance. There were musicians, venue owners, music fans, and legal professionals that were all looking to create change in regards to live music & live music permits in New Orleans. There was one representative from the Mayor’s office there, but that is not enough to get this pushed through. We must all make our voices heard and we must state clearly that we want a streamlined way to obtain and keep live music permits in our city. Without heavy fines on long running music establishments in our city.

On our end, we are still pushing to get a modification on the fliering laws here. We obtained about 70 signatures with e-mails and phone numbers. We are meeting with some of the higher profile venues in town soon to hopefully get them on board with our proposal.
